Add Hyper-V Host from Another Domain

Hi everyone! this is my first time posting on the community and I am hoping for a good experience! :)

here is the environment...

I administer two domains:

domain1.contoso.com

domain2.contoso.com

I have installed and configured SCVMM 2012 SP1 RU2 on Windows Server 2012 (Fully updated) and local SQL 2012 SP1. Firewall is off during testing.

This SCVMM server is a member of the domain1.contoso.com domain. The SCVMM service is running under a domain account. This SCVMM server service account is also a member of domain1.contoso.com.

Here is where it gets a little gray.

My two domain functional levels are Windows 2008 R2 and I have a full two-way trust between them.

I am trying to add two Hyper-V clusters which are members of the domain2.contoso.com domain. Both clusters are based on Windows Server 2012.

When I try to add the hyper-v hosts to the console I get the following error:

I have tried the following:

  • Added domain1.contoso.com VMM-computer and VMM-serviceAccount to the administrative group on all hosts in cluster.
  • Delegated read permissions to both said accounts above.
  • Confirmed that firewalls are all off.
  • Tried adding them via ip and fqdn (hypervhost.domain2.contoso.com) same error.
  • I have confirmed that at the top of AD (domain2) I have these top said accounts as read access and all the way down to the servers OU.

At this point I am at a loss. THis is my second build of the setup, my previous build used a local system account and had no success either.

Does anyone have any suggestions or documentation that I could dig into? I have tried to look at some cross-domain SCVMM stuff but the material around is very limited.

Thanks everyone in advance.

-Will
