SCVMM 2016 Virtual Machine Manager 1602

Hi Folks,

I've built an scvmm 2016 ENV.

The configuration is

1. SQL Server 2016 on "always on high availability group" and windows failover cluster.

2. SCVMM 2016 Management server Clustered nodes and windows failover cluster.

I was successfully able to connect to DB but now when trying to log in to the VMM console i'm getting an error. Getting error both primary and secondary.

Troubleshooting steps performed.

1. checked DB permissions on the SQL server - intact

2. sql and scvmm service accounts on both SCVMM hosts and sql hosts and DB's - Fine.

3. I see the VMM cluster role is down although the IP, DNS host name is pingable i'm unable to bring the role up and running in failover cluster manager. ( VMM service role). Run a validation report status reports failed generic service( the VMM cluster name)

The role never comes up errors are similar to "group transistioned from pending to failed"

4. tried to restart the service "system center virtual machine manager " manually in services.msc but it doesn't start. It's set as manual and never does start.

5. checked VMM logs but see lot of errors logs which is something like this

Did read lots of blogs which stated to change rows in sql which was also executed successfully but still unable to restart the VMM service.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/3020448/error-id-1602-occurs-and-the-microsoft-system-center-2012-virtual-mach

7. The event viewer also clearly suggesting "failover clustering resource error" which again points to the below files.

8. verified the firewall ports 1433 from both SCVMM cluster servers to SQL server via telnet

9. No errors were reported while installing the SCVMM console on both primary and sec SCVMM nodes.

10. The DB's were clearly selected for this automatically from console.

Not sure whether should i rebuild the entire thing from scrapping the whole scvmm, re-install OS, build failover cluster and then install scvmm and then select new DB creation but still feel i've done the setup properly.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/3020448/error-id-1602-occurs-and-the-microsoft-system-center-2012-virtual-mach

ANY SCVMM folks, need some assistance badly or will go ahead with the new build but feel someone should be able to guide me though. Hoping for the best !!

Unsupported Cluster Configuration - Error (13924)

$

I've just installed a bran new VMM 2012 SP1 Server.  This is my first VMM Server, and therefore, I have very limited knowledge and experience with it.  I've added my existing Hyper-V Cluster to VMM.  My Hyper-V Cluster is a 4 node cluster running Windows Server 2012.  My VMs are stored on a "Scale-out File Server Cluster" using SMB 3.0, on Windows Server 2012 (\\SOFS\Share).

I've also added the SMB share to my VMM's cluster properties.

The majority of my VMs have a status or "Running".  However, if I do a "Refresh" on a VM, the status will change to "Unsupported Cluster Configuration"  Then, if I view the Status of the VM, I see the following error message:

Error (13924)
The highly available virtual machine (VMNAME) is not supported by VMM because the virtual machine uses non-clustered storage.

Recommended Action
Ensure that all of the files and pass-through disks belonging to the virtual machine reside on highly available storage.

Once the VM is in this state, I can no longer do any Migrations from VMM.  I can still do Live Migrations from the Failover Cluster Manager console, but not from VMM.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

Can someone please help here for installing SCVMM 2016 on Windows 2016..

A Hardware Management error has occurred trying to contact server 'LGINSR-SCVMM1.lgi.libertyinsurance.in'  .

WinRM: URL: [http://lginsr-scvmm1.lgi.libertyinsurance.in:5985], Verb: [GET], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/scvmm/FileInformation?Filename=\\LGINSR-SCVMM1.lgi.libertyinsurance.in\MSSCVMMLibrary\VHDs\Blank Disk - Small.vhd]

Check that WinRM is installed and running on server 'LGINSR-SCVMM1.lgi.libertyinsurance.in'. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult" and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275.

Hi,

So we hit an issues during the install phase of upgrading vmm from 2012 R2 to 2016. We corrected the issues that caused the errors, but now VMM is in a libo state, where It cannot be removed or installed.

The Removal completes with the Bellow completion message.  Setup Logs bellow.

Any advice on how to fix this would be great. Want to avoid rebuilding the box

Following an upgrade from SCVMM 2012 R2 UR14 to SCVMM 2016 UR4, SMI-S is unstable.

I'm unable to manage a particular provider entry (can't refresh, can't update, can't delete).

I'm unable to re add providers with SSL and one provider in HTTP.

I've check the Storage Management in the Registry according to the requirements:

ValueDescriptionDefault
DisableHttpsCommonNameCheckTurns off Common Name (CN) checking0 (CN does not need to match the provider machine name)
EnableHTTPListenerClientCertificateCheckTurns on client certificate checking1 (Enabled) The Indication provider must present a valid certificate
EnableIndicationsTurns on indication subscriptions1 (Enabled)
IndicationDeliveryFailurePolicySee CIM_IndicationSubscription.On FatalErrorPolicy4 (Remove) The subscription will attempt to set this to Remove. If that fails, it will retry without setting this property.

Has anyone faced similar issue and found a solution? Your help is appreciated.

No Option to Upgrade SCVMM from 2016 to Version 1801

I have SCVMM running on Windows 2016 1706 and would like to upgrade to SCVMM 1801. When I run Setup.exe (elevated) I only get the option to remove SCVMM features. Other than that it just says "Some VMM features are already installed on this machine". The SQL version is 2016 with the most recent CU.

From what I can tell from the release notes, etc. I should be able to do an in-place upgrade. Am I missing something?

In researching this I was reminded that I have the option of uninstalling the old version while keeping the DB intact. Is this the only way I can do it?

Clustered VMM Library - Unable to contact cluster service - Error (13805)

I have an existing Clustered File Server that is configured exactly the same way Microsoft's documentation tells me to configure a Clustered File Server for hosting the VMM Library (Deploy a highly available VMM Library). So I took an existing File Server Role (named FS10) and added a new share called VMMLibrary. When I specified the virtual network name (FS10) during the Add Library Server wizard, VMM found all 5 cluster servers that are members of this cluster. The wizard went on to install the VMM Client on all cluster servers, but failed on the very last step saying it was "Unable to contact cluster service on FS10". Now it gives me the same error every time I try to refresh the VMM Library.

I tried running the Add Library Server wizard using the cluster name itself (FSCL) rather than the Virtual Network Name of the actual role (FS10), but that doesn't work either. DNS is fine, Active Directory does have a computer item for FS10, the VMM admin account as well as the VMM Management servers have full control over the VMMLibrary share I just created. There's no Kerberos errors (or any errors for that matter) in the Event Log. What am I doing wrong?

SMI-S changes with 2016?

We have a Dell VNXe 3200 SAN that has a built-in SMI-S provider - should be pretty straightforward to add as managed storage. However SCVMM 2016 always spits back WsManMInvokeFailed. Spun up a SCVMM 2012R2 evaluation VHD and it worked flawlessly. Spun up a 2016 evaluation VHD just to make sure it wasn't an environment thing. Doesn't work there either. 2016 is update rollup 5

Specifically, the steps being attempted is this: https://youtu.be/5I0vljaYRVA?t=3m7s

We have support and I've opened a ticket with Dell to no avail - they asked us to create a ticket with Microsoft. Did SCVMM 2016 change the registration of storage devices somehow? I took the successful commands in 2012 and tried to do it in the powershell of the 2016 server - same error. RunAs Account has been validated, recreated, etc dozens of times.

VMM 2012 SP1: cannot add 3PAR 7400 storage

Hello,

I have VMM 2012 SP1 installed (actually I even tried to upgrade them to UR3) on Windows 2012 host, and HP 3PAR 7400 (OS version is 3.1.2, SMI-S version is 1.4)

CIM is started on 3Par with the startcim command (I used the following manual: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=4AA4-2876ENW)

But when I try to add 3Par as SMI-S storage I've got an error:

Error (26263)
Registration of storage provider https://192.168.220.8:5989 for user 3paradm failed from bgf-vmm01.domain.CORP with error code HostAgentFail.

Recommended Action
Specify valid provider, port and user credentials for storage discovery.

Error (26212)
VMM could not determine the availability of File Services on the specified provider.

Recommended Action
Fix the issue, and then try the operation again.

Of course credentials are OK and IP address too. I try to use WBEMServices Java util and it connects successfully so I guess that my problem is VMM-related.

I tried both SSL and non-SSL connections with the same result.

I try to enable CIM log, here is it:

When trying to install VMM console on my machine after reinstalling and upgrading to windows 10. During the install process it gets stuck at installing features. I have installed the pre-reqs from the install disk. Run it as admin, and ran in compatibility to no avail. I read somewhere about Logitech set point being something of an issue, but i don't have it installed. HAs anyone had any issues common to mine? Thanks in advance.

SCVMM 2016 Upgrade Fails with error 1603

Helloo,

I've followed the SCVMM 2012R2 to 2016 Upgrade process and have done the following:

1- backed up, removed SCVMM 2012R2 UR12

2- Upgraded to Windows Server 2016

3- Installed ADK10 and SQL 2014 CLR and Management Objects

4-Attempted various reboots/ Username combinations and session logins to no avail

The installer allows me to fill everything in without error. I have a remote VirtualManagerDB on a patched SQL Server 2014 Instance. The Installer is able to install and verify all of the prerequisites, but then I see it begin rolling back after it attempts to install the VMM Management component.

Keep running into the same fatal error when adding a NIC, connected to a VM Network, on any VM.

Hello

I'm running a testlab at home that has two Nano Servers as Hyper-V hosts, one domain controller and one System Center - Virtual Machine Manager 2016 server.

Both the hosts are added to the fabric on the VMM server. They respond just fine and creating a VM without a connected Network Adapter works just fine. I can connect to VMs on both of the hosts.

The problem occurs when I try to connect a NIC to a VM Network. Without fail I get the following error:

Windows 10 Remote Desktop Minimizing issue

$

Hi,

So I have a problem with using the latest RDT version. We use mac computers here (groan, not my decision lol) and the older version of remote desktop (8) works fine. But that is going to be decommissioned in the near future, so we are going to need to switch to Version 10.

We are using RDT to load an accounting software called avionte. For some reason as you load avionte in remote desktop it just minimizes the session. The only way to get it back is to right click the RDT icon and maximum the session back up. Obviously we can work around that, but its rather irritating. Any ideas on why the new version does that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Caleb

Cannot convert virtual switch to logical switch

Hi!

I created logical switch in VMM 2016 and want to apply it to host. But convert to logical switch is grayed out under host virtual switches tab (there are no locical switches available...). (The problematic NIC is second NIC on my host, first NIC is configured via logical switch.)

How can I find the exact reason why the conversion is not possible?

Thanks,

VMM install does not detect SQL Server 2016 Command Line Tools. Is this OK?

I am building a new VMM 2016 server

I installed Windows Server 2016. Plus all updates.

Also installed SQL Server 2016. Updated.

Also installed SQL Server 2016 Management Studio (version 16.5.3)

Launched VMM install. It complains like this:

I installed Microsoft® Command Line Utilities 13.1 for SQL Server. And Microsoft® ODBC Driver 13.1 for SQL Server.

I Checked pre-requisites again. It still complains.

I can install ODBC and command line tools fra SQL Server 2014, like it asks. But they will not work with SQL Server 2016. I checked.

So:

I there a way to get VMM install to recognize the 2016 command line tools?

Can I safely ignore the warning and proceed? Or will I suffer grave "system performance problems"?

Or is it the case that SQL Server 2016 is not actually completely supported by VMM 2016?

Any thoughts?

Migrate from single-host VMM install to clustered install

Is there an approved method to migrate from a single-host VMM installation to a clustered (highly available) VMM install? The database is on a separate host, but also unclustered.

I'm assuming a possible method would be to:

  1. Uninstall the VMM server without removing the database.
  2. Migrate the database to a Basic Availability Group.
  3. Reinstall as highly available VMM instance.

Installing SCVMM from Scratch

Hello Experts... I need to install SCVMM from scratch. Can you experts help me in setting up new server/s for SCVMM (as I am new to this technology).

I need a step by step guide to install it (in terms of no of servers required & all other H/W, S/W required to completely setup SCVMM).

A lot of thanks in advance...

Thanks, Sim
