3 Host Hyper-V with VMM

I plan on replacing my vmware vCenter installation with Hyper-V. I plan on buying a host, migrate VM(s) to it, free up another host, add it to the cluster, etc.

I will have 3 host with approximately 25 VM(s). My question is where to put VMM. Can someone point me to documentation on a standard 3 host configuration with a highly available VMM? I have a couple physical machines I can put it on as well.

In vCenter I ran a virtual vCenter with SQL express. I understand SQL Express is no longer an option with 2012 SCVMM, but is anyone running a virtual VMM with a single VM for both VMM and SQL?

Using SCVMM to replace Vmware Lab Manger

$

I am currently looking into using SCVMM 2012 to replace vmware lab manager that we currently use to allow student to connect to and do their computer labs(non MOAC, just beginning OS labs). I was wondering what the best approach would be. We have licences for just about everything so product shouldn't be an issue.

What I want is for the students to be able to connect through a website, run the vms in their course only. the vms need to be networked together with no access to the outside or other student configurations. They need to have access to ISO's for a couple installations. Since these are begging computer students it has to be as simple as possible.

I would be great if there was a walk through on how to get this done and what components I will need. Please be as descriptive as possible. I am not that familiar with System Center. So far all I seem to be able to do is install SVCMM successfully using Hyper-V. Just need to know what else I can do to get this to function the way I need it to. I am open to other suggestions or options. We need to host this and not have another company host it. We do not have the money to spend on it and we already spent a bunch of money to get the servers for vmware LM.

The Service Principal Names (SPNs) that VMM requires were not correctly registered when the VMM management server

Dear all,

After installing scvmm2012 I run the MBCA 2.0 and I got the following error:

Category: Configuration

Source: gvascvmm02.europe.loc

Issue: The Service Principal Names (SPNs) that VMM requires were not correctly registered when the VMM management server was set up on the specified server. This is a known issue in System Center 2012 – Virtual Machine Manager.

Impact: The VMM console may not be able to connect to the VMM management server and/or deploying a Hyper-V host to a bare-metal computer may not work.

Resolution: Manually add the SPNs that are required by VMM by running the following commands as an administrator at an elevated command prompt:
1. setspn -A SCVMM/yourmachine -U domain\account
2. setspn -A SCVMM/yourmachine.fqdn.com -U domain\account

I have done the following to solve it :

setspn -A SCVMM/gvascvmm02 -U europe\gvascvmmservice2

setspn -A SCVMM/gvascvmm02.europe.loc -U europe\gvascvmmservice2

and error still there.

i have also list all spn for that accounts :

Virtual Machine Servicing Tool 2012 - Could not connect to VMM 2012

Hello,

I have a problem concerning the Virtual Machine Serviing Tool 2012: when I try to configure the tool I am asked for the VMM 2012 server and the SCCM 2012 server. But my SCVMM server is not accepted ("Could not connect to System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager server"). The account that I use has administrative rights on the SCVMM (Domain Admin). It is also not firewall related (does also not work when the firewall is turned off). The Servicing Tool is installed on the SCVMM server. My SCVMM is SCVMM 2012 SP1.

Any idea?

Thanks,

Bernd

VMM 2012 SP1 Setup - Service Account could not be verified Error

Hi,

When installing SCVMM 2012 SP1 on Windows Server 2012, we have this error when setting service account ("Configure service account and distributed key management" screen):

"The domain account specified for the service account could not be verified. Ensure that domain name, user name, and password are correct, and then try the operation again ....."

This does not make any sense. Our service account is local admin on the server, we can logon to the server with this account also. Even our domain admin guys tried their own username and passwords but the result is the same. The server can communicate with AD, we have tried logging in with new accounts successfully. The server can also resolve other servers names, so DNS is ok too. Tried with Windows Firewall on and off, UAC on and off, with no success.

We are trying to get past this error for hours but could not find a solution. Any help appreciated.

Silently install SCVMM 2012 SP1 Console

Hello.

I'm evaluating the use of SP1. So far so good, except for silently installing the console on out technicians computers. We managed to do so with the 2012 RTM version, but with the 2012 SP1 RTM version we are having some problems. We are using this command

"%~dp0setup.exe" /client /i /f "%~dp0amd64\Setup\VMClient.ini"

But the installation stops early, and the logs say:

vmstpstub entered
Run SetupVM.exe
start /wait SetupVM.exe /spawned /SetupLocation "E:\amd64\3082\LaunchScreen.DLL\..\..\\" /i /client
start /wait SetupVM.exe /spawned /SetupLocation  "E:\amd64\3082\LaunchScreen.DLL\..\..\\" /i /client
Error : Setup failed, error 15
Delete "E:\amd64\3082\LaunchScreen.DLL\..\..\\"

I have tried using absolute paths, using a network share, a mounted iso, a local path. Also tried not specifying a ini file.

If we try to install it manually it works perfectly. We are deploying on Windows 7 SP1 x64 Enterprise machines.

Any help?

'Setup cannot backup database' error when upgrading from SCVMM 2012 to SP1

$

Hi

I am trying to upgrade my SCVMM 2012 installation to SP1.

My old installation was on Windows Server 2008 R2 so I have built a new dedicated Windows 2012 Server to run SCVMM 2012 SP1.

I have uninstalled SCVMM 2012 from the old server and selected the Retain Data option.

When I try to install SCVMM 2012 SP1 onto the Windows 2012 server, I enter the name of my SQL Server and the installation detects the existing database without a problem.  However, after a few minutes of the install starting, rolls back with the following error:

'Virtual Machine Manager Setup cannot create a backup of the existing database.  Verify that you have necessary rights to backup the Virtual Machine Manager database, and then restart Setup.'

It seems that no matter what account I use, it fails at this point every time.  I have even created a brand new Domain account and given it full sysadmin server role and db_owner and db_backupoperator rights to the VirtualManagerDB database.

I am running the database on SQL Server 2012 SP1. I have seen that there is no mention of official support for SP1 on SQL 2012 but there was also no mention of SQL 2012 for SCVMM 2012 and that worked without a problem, and continued to work fine after applying SP1 to SQL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David

Can get past creating Libary share page

$

We are reinstalling VMM to use the db on a SQL 2012 server instead of SQL 2008.

We have reached the point in the reinstall that it was to setup library shares.

I am not able to use the existing nor create a new one and continue with the next button.

It just sits there and does nothing.  If I chose new share and use MSSCVMMLibrary, its says it already exists.   If I pick a new location no error but pressing NEXT does nothing.

How do I solve this?

Thanks

Thanks Lance

Hello
I need help
I build a lab on vmware vsphere 5.1
I run hyper-v in a VM vsphere 5.1 so I can build a lab without physical server :)
CONFIG :
I have 1 VMM sp1  -  192.168.1.142
2 hyperv3 2012 Hosts Hyperv1 : 192.168.1.140  -   Hyperv2 : 192.168.1.141
1 serveur with iscsi target

I dont have any rooter
I want to start with a very very basic configuration....
I want to start with only 2 ethernet card
So what I did :
I have on each HV Host :
ethernet 1 for cluster 192.168.2.10 HV1 and for HV2 192.168.2.11
ethernet 2 for prod iscsi live migration ....  192.168.1.140

BUT here I dont know anymore how to do :
Because when i see all the blogs, I must create a logical network and different subnet for
- iscsi
- prod
- live migration
- managment
BUT ! I have only one subnet 192.168.1.0/24 for all
So is it posible to bind all (iscsi, prod, live migration, managment) one only the ethernet 2 card. I dont have other card

And for cluster communication, if i try to create a logical network I need again another subnet
Tks for your help

The pages for SCOM, SCO, SCCM exists, but nothing for SCVMM.

Do anyone give me an insight on how can I perform it?

Adding Hosts OK but with Virtual Switch Extension error

Hi all,

We have a 4-nodes Hyper-V 3 cluster configured and SCVMM 2012 SP1 newly installed.

We added the cluster in SCVMM. Agent deployment looks ok but with have a failure for each hosts.

At step 1.6 Install Virtual Switch Extensions:

Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the <HOST FQDN> server: NO_PARAM: NO_PARAM.
WinRM: URL: [http://<HOST FQDN>:5985], Verb: [INVOKE], Method: [GetError], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/microsoft/bits/BitsClientJob?JobId={A7823E3D-5AF8-4B39-8C5E-7103CA9AD3A5}]
Unknown error (0x80072f06)
Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server <HOST FQDN>. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If <HOST FQDN> is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running.

All our deployment went ok except this little error we don't understand.

WinRM's configuration is fine and we didn't configure anything about virtual switch extension in VMM.

Any Idea ?

Regards.
